iPhone 2.0 firmware scheduled for June

March 6, 2008

Per today’s conference:  This will include the ability to purchase and install 3rd party apps over WIFI and Edge (including 3D games).  Apple is also doing a lot of work to make the phone more business-friendly.  The device will sync with Exchange server mail and authenticate with Cisco VPN (which means that I actually might be able to connect with my secure office email server without having to use a blackberry).

One interesting feature is “remote wipe”, which will allow a user to send a signal to completely wipe out the phone if it’s ever lost or stolen.  My company installs that feature with each laptop they deploy, but I’ve never seen one for a mobile phone.

… until then, the jailbreaking will continue.
